Organization of the North Texas Chapter
of the TAMT

A meeting was called by Shelli Davis to discuss the formation of a north Texas chapter of the Texas Association of Massage Therapist (TAMT) here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.  I was asked to attend, along with several well known and experienced educators in the area.  We discussed the need for such a chapter here to help network and inform therapist in north Texas as to any changes in the current massage laws, and any new bills being presented in the legislature that might affect MT’s.

We agreed to hold monthly gatherings that would meet on the 2nd Tues. of each month.  Each gathering would present information on the TAMT, its goals and purposes, along with having a presenter give a 1 hour lecture/presentation on a particular modality, therapeutic procedure, or business in the area that is performing some type of massage/bodywork specialty for the treatment of a particular illness.  Members can get CEU’s for attending the lecture.  This would be a way to get therapist involved in not only the gatherings, but the TAMT as well.  Everyone present agreed upon the general goals of forming this chapter.

We then scheduled our first gathering to be held next month on the 10th of March.  Having a data base of over 100 therapist in the DFW area, we hoped for a sizable turn-out.   All hopes were high.  Now, we had to put forth the energy to make people want to attend and participate in their own industry in this area.
