Second Meeting of the North Texas Chapter
of the TAMT

Wayne McKinzie - Shine Therapy

We had the wonderful experience by having Wayne McKinzie with Shine Therapy come and Guest Speak at our April chapter meeting.  Wayne offered information and resources to guests on Cancer "Oncology" Massage and provided intake forms that guests will be able to utilize with Oncology clients.  He discussed the founding of Shine Therapy, the name of the business he works for, in regards of its development, and the training that goes on for massage therapist to become trained in Oncology Massage. World Massage Festival

This years festival was held in New Braunfels, Texas, and had over 700 attendees and more than 50 vendors present. There was also a open panel discussion between some of the presenters and the crowd of participants at large which cover issues within our industry like the difference between the MBLEx and NCE exams, and the current bills in the Texas Legislature effecting MT’s in our state. Most of the Texas therapist attending were unaware of the SB 1980 that would place massage therapist and massage establishments in the same category as prostitutes. The discussion was lively, to say the least.

I was voted to the state Board of the Texas Association of Massage Therapist (TAMT) as 2nd Vice President. Now I’m on the State Board of TAMT and the Board of the local chapter.

In addition, I was given an award by the World Massage Festival for more than 20 yrs. of doing massage. Orbie Ratcliff, the State President of TAMT, also presented me with a certificate of Master Massage Therapist for more than 20 yrs. of being a massage therapist here in Texas. The picture below shows me receiving this award.

I was present at the festival as a vendor selling my Sports Tuina DVD, and advertising my classes and workshops. I will be one of the presenters in 2010 in Kentucky.

Over all, the festival was very successful. One of the items on display that I found to be interesting was a long chart showing the evolution of massage therapy throughout the ages, beginning in China around 2700 B.C., and ending at the present, listing leaders in the field of massage and manipulative therapies that have shaped our industry into what it has become today.http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102585952499&s=79&e=001fuZTY1sh6r9vDMzW59bm9sSOJ7maAlBCyOHpKPVymykPFkBjWzzGnfpUbHGh9vBjP4Wg1ubMOr1wAhDCqm3q9Is-cy-Y-XGlR_thHYYx-ZPQx3bBAB0LWg==shapeimage_1_link_0
