AOBTA National Convention

The convention this year was held in San Diego.  The theme this year was the Water Element of “flow,” which is the Kidney and Bladder energy, or Qi.  Attendance was low this year, about 50 participants, but the energy was high.  There were several good facilitators teaching some very interesting workshops on such topics as:  Foot Tuina, Auricular Therapy (acupuncture points in the ear), and Acupoints for Treating Kidney Imbalance.  They gave a lot of good info to take back to our clients.

Michael D’Agro, Education Director, spoke to the group about getting more members involved in the organization.  It’s been a problem lately, and members of the Board are stumped as to the reason “why.”  So, you have a few people doing a lot of work to keep things going, when a lot more are needed.  Several suggestions were shared, but no real solutions were presented.  It’s an increasingly frustration problem that has been getting worse over the years.  Something needs to be done soon to prevent “burn-out” of the Board and those volunteers that are shouldering the work.

Many books were on sale by several well know authors in the field of Traditional Chinese Med. and asian bodywork.  Participants were therefore about to acquire a lot of good information from both teachers and text books alike.  Some of the best published books in the field of asian bodywork and health was on sale at the convention.  So, even though the turn-out was somewhat on the low side, the networking, Qi, and knowledge gained made the experience a positive one to be sure.
